QUICK ANSWER
When your aircond is running but not cooling properly, there are usually several possible causes. The most common ones are a dirty air filter, restricted airflow, a dirty indoor coil or blower, blocked outdoor unit, low refrigerant, incorrect remote settings, or a component fault.
The right fix depends on what the inspection actually finds. We diagnose the cause before recommending cleaning, gas work, or repair — so you don't pay for a service your unit doesn't need.
BEFORE YOU BOOK A SERVICE
4 Checks You Can Do in 5 Minutes
These four checks are simple and worth trying before you book a technician. Some issues can be ruled out in a minute or two.
01
Check the mode on your remote
If you're trying to cool the room, make sure the remote is set to Cool mode rather than Fan or another operating mode.
02
Lower the temperature setting
Lower the set temperature a few degrees and allow the unit time to respond. If the room still does not cool properly, the system may need further checking.
03
Look at the air filter
A grey, dust-clogged filter cuts airflow. If it looks like a felt carpet, that's likely your problem.
04
Check airflow around the outdoor unit
If the outdoor unit is boxed in, covered, or stacked against other units, it can't release heat properly.
If none of these helped, the cause is inside the system. Time for a proper diagnosis. Don't open the indoor unit or touch electrical parts yourself.
THE ROOT CAUSES
7 Reasons Your Aircond Isn't Cold
These are common causes of poor aircond cooling. Some are simple. Some need a technician. Here's how to tell them apart.
01 · MOST COMMON
Dirty air filter
Airflow drops when the filter is clogged. In Malaysia, this happens fast — especially in condos near construction sites or homes with pets.
DIY check · Clean or replace filter
02
Dirty indoor coil or blower
Dust and mould build up on the coil and blower over time, restricting airflow and reducing cooling performance.
Needs · Chemical wash
03
Low refrigerant or a leak
Refrigerant doesn't get used up like petrol. If it's found to be low, the cause may be a leak or an incorrect previous charge. The system should be checked before adding more refrigerant.
Needs · Gas diagnosis + leak check
04
Blocked outdoor condenser
In condos, outdoor units often sit in air wells with poor ventilation. Dust, leaves, or debris on the fins stops heat from escaping.
Needs · Outdoor unit cleaning
05
Capacitor or electrical fault
A faulty capacitor, fan motor, control board, or other electrical component can prevent the system from cooling properly. These need electrical fault diagnosis by a trained technician.
Needs · Repair diagnosis
06
Wrong setting or blocked airflow
Furniture blocking the indoor unit, curtains covering the grille, or a return air path that's blocked. Simple, but easy to miss.
DIY check · Rearrange furniture
07 · LESS COMMON BUT WORTH KNOWING
Unit too small for the room
If the unit was undersized for the room, it may struggle to reach the desired temperature — especially in larger, renovated, or sun-exposed spaces. This may require a unit size assessment rather than a repair.
SYMPTOM MATCHING
What You're Seeing, and What It Usually Means
Match your symptom to the likely cause. This isn't a replacement for diagnosis — but it helps you understand what's happening.
| What You Notice | Likely Cause | What We Check |
|---|---|---|
| Weak airflow from indoor unit | Dirty filter or blower | Filter, blower wheel, coil |
| Air blows but stays warm | Refrigerant or system fault | Refrigerant pressure, compressor |
| Cold for a few minutes, then warm | Icing or airflow restriction | Coil, airflow, refrigerant |
| Ice forming on copper pipe | Airflow or refrigerant issue | Coil airflow + refrigerant level |
| Outdoor fan not spinning | Fan motor or capacitor | Fan motor, capacitor, controls |
| One room stays warm while others are cold | Unit capacity or airflow path | Unit HP vs room size, airflow |
Not sure which one matches? Send us a photo of your unit and describe what you're seeing on WhatsApp. We'll give you an honest indication before you book.
THE MOST COMMON MISCONCEPTION
Aircond Not Cold — Do You Really Need Gas?
This is the first thing most people think when their aircond stops cooling. Sometimes it's right. Often it's not.
Refrigerant works in a sealed loop. It doesn't get "used up" like fuel in a car. If your system is low, that means one of two things: there may be a leak somewhere in the loop, or a previous technician may have undercharged it.
But here's the part most people miss: low refrigerant is only one of several reasons an aircond loses cooling. A dirty filter, restricted airflow, a dirty coil, or a failing component can all produce symptoms that feel identical.
THE HONEST ANSWER
We won't top up gas just because you asked. We pressure-test the system first. If the refrigerant level is normal, we check airflow, coils, and components before recommending anything.
If low refrigerant is confirmed, we check for the underlying cause before recommending a top-up. Adding refrigerant without addressing a leak can lead to the problem returning.

AFTER SERVICING
Aircond Not Cold After a Service?
It happens. Here's what we've seen — and the right way to handle it.
If the cooling issue started immediately after a service, there are a few common explanations:
- •The coil was still heavily dirty on the inside — a basic clean doesn't reach it
- •Airflow was restricted after reassembly — a panel or flap not seated correctly
- •A refrigerant issue was already developing, and the clean just revealed it
- •The outdoor unit was never touched — blocked fins can undo a good indoor clean
WHAT TO DO
If the problem started immediately after a service, contact the original technician first and ask them to recheck the work.
If that's not possible, we can inspect the unit and tell you what we find. We won't assume the previous work was the cause — but we'll explain honestly what needs to happen next.

QUESTIONS WE HEAR OFTEN
Aircond Not Cold — Common Questions
Why is my aircond not cold?
The most common causes are a dirty filter, restricted airflow, a dirty indoor coil or blower, a blocked outdoor unit, low refrigerant, a capacitor fault, or incorrect remote settings. Some can be checked by you. Others need a technician.
Why is my aircond blowing warm air?
If the indoor unit is running but the air isn't cold, the compressor may not be engaging. This can be due to a refrigerant issue, a faulty capacitor, or a system fault. It needs proper diagnosis — not a gas top-up by default.
Does an aircond not cold always need gas?
No. Low refrigerant is one possible cause, but not the only one. A dirty filter, blocked airflow, dirty coil, or component fault can produce the same symptom. We pressure-test the system before recommending a top-up.
Can a dirty filter cause weak cooling?
Yes. A clogged filter restricts airflow, which reduces the amount of cold air reaching the room. In Malaysia, filters can clog within a few weeks — especially in dusty environments or homes with pets.
Why is my aircond cold for a while, then warm?
This usually points to coil icing. The coil gets cold, then ices over, then stops cooling. Common causes are low refrigerant or restricted airflow. Needs diagnosis.
Why is my aircond not cold after servicing?
It can happen for a few reasons — the coil was still dirty inside, a panel wasn't seated correctly, or a pre-existing issue surfaced. Contact the original technician first. If that's not possible, we can inspect independently.
How much does aircond repair cost in KL & Selangor?
Diagnosis starts from RM79 and is waived if you proceed with the repair. Component repairs — capacitor, fan motor, PCB, compressor — are quoted after inspection because cost depends on the failed part and unit type.
When should I call a technician instead of checking myself?
If the filter is clean, settings are correct, and airflow around the outdoor unit is fine — but the unit still isn't cold — the cause is inside the system. Call a technician. Don't open the indoor unit or touch electrical parts yourself.

Aircond Tak Sejuk KL & Selangor — Cari Puncanya
