QUICK ANSWER
Cool Pro's aircond gas top-up across Kuala Lumpur and Selangor starts from RM50 for a small top-up. A half top-up begins at RM130, and a full recharge starts from RM180 (R22) or RM200 (R32/R410A) for a 1.0–1.5HP wall-mounted unit.
The final price depends on your refrigerant type (R32, R410A, or R22), horsepower, and how much refrigerant is actually needed. Refrigerant doesn't get consumed during normal operation — if a system is low, a leak or a previous undercharge is usually worth investigating first. Every visit includes a pressure test and leak check.

UNDERSTANDING THE PROBLEM
Why Is My Aircond Low on Gas?
Refrigerant isn't a fuel. It circulates in a sealed loop and doesn't get consumed during normal operation. So if a unit is low, something has usually gone wrong.
Refrigerant gas works like the blood of your aircond — it moves through a sealed loop, absorbing heat from inside your room and releasing it outside. That cycle is what makes cold air possible. Because the loop is sealed, the same refrigerant should keep circulating for years without needing a top-up.
So if your system is low, that usually points to one of two things: a leak has developed somewhere in the sealed loop, or the system was undercharged during a previous service. Topping up without checking the cause tends to mean the same problem comes back — and you end up paying for the same gas twice.
Copper pipe leak
Small pinhole leaks form over time from vibration, corrosion, or physical stress on the line.
Flare or joint leak
Loose or worn flare connections are one of the most common leak sources — and one of the easiest to fix.
Coil leak
Indoor or outdoor coils can develop leaks, especially in older units with corrosion.
Previous install issue
A poorly sealed joint or a rushed install can leak slowly for years without being noticed.
Undercharge from previous work
If a previous top-up was done without measuring, the system might never have had the correct charge.
Valve or Schrader issue
Service valves and Schrader ports can slowly leak if they're not properly sealed.
Each of these needs a different fix. That's exactly why a proper pressure test comes before any top-up — not after.
SIGNS TO WATCH FOR
7 Signs Your Aircond Is Running Low on Refrigerant
These are the patterns we see most often when a unit is genuinely low on gas. None of them on their own proves low refrigerant — but if you're noticing more than two or three, it's worth a proper check. If your unit is running but not cooling the room properly, low refrigerant is one possible cause — but not the only one.
01
Struggles to reach set temperature
The unit runs for long periods but the room never quite cools down to what you've set.
02
Air is less cold than before
Not warm — just not as cold as it used to be. Gradual rather than sudden.
03
Hissing or bubbling noise
A soft hiss near the indoor unit or copper line can mean refrigerant is escaping from a small leak.
04
Ice or frost on the pipe
Ice forming on the outdoor valve or copper pipe is a strong indicator of low refrigerant.
05
Higher bill, less cooling
The system runs longer to try to hit the target temperature, pushing your bill up.
06
Outdoor unit never stops
The compressor runs continuously without reaching the set point. That's wasted electricity.
07
Weak cooling after recent service
If cooling weakened right after another job, the refrigerant level is worth checking next.
CHECK FIRST
Clean the filter
A dirty filter is a common cause of weak cooling. If things improve after cleaning, gas wasn't your issue.
Still not cold? Message us →These signs can appear when refrigerant is low — but each one can have other causes too. A proper on-site check is the only way to confirm. That's why we diagnose before quoting.
REFRIGERANT TYPES
R32 vs R410A vs R22 — What's the Difference?
If you've looked at your outdoor unit's nameplate, you've probably seen one of these codes. Here's what each one means, and why it affects your gas top-up price.
| Refrigerant | Common In | What's Worth Knowing |
|---|---|---|
| R32 | Most new units | Current standard. More efficient than older refrigerants, needs less volume per fill. Classified A2L (mildly flammable) — see the safety note below. |
| R410A | Mid-generation units | Transitional refrigerant. Still widely supported and easy to source. Works well but operates at higher pressure than R32. |
| R22 | Older units | Being phased out internationally under the Montreal Protocol because of ozone-depleting potential. Still available for existing units, but costing more each year as supply shrinks. |
Installation year can give you a rough clue, but the refrigerant type should always be confirmed from the outdoor unit's nameplate or manufacturer specification. Different models within the same year can use different refrigerants.
A NOTE ON R32 SAFETY
R32 is classified as mildly flammable (A2L). It should be handled by a trained technician using appropriate refrigerant-handling procedures rather than as a DIY service.
R32 also has no smell, so a leak isn't something you'd notice on your own. This is exactly why refrigerant handling should be left to a certified technician. On the positive side, R32 is genuinely more efficient and better for the environment than older refrigerants, and needs less volume to do the same job.
HOW TO CHECK
How to Check Your Aircond's Gas Type
You don't need to open anything or touch any wiring. The refrigerant type is printed on a small sticker on the outdoor unit — and it takes under a minute to find.
STEP 1
Find the outdoor unit
This is the larger box mounted outside your home — on a ledge, balcony, or wall bracket.
STEP 2
Look for the nameplate
A silver or white sticker on the side, back, or top of the unit. It lists the model, voltage, and refrigerant.
STEP 3
Read the refrigerant code
Look for "Refrigerant" or "Refrigerant Type." You'll see one of: R32, R410A, or R22.
If the sticker is faded or missing — use this rough reference:
| If Your Unit Was Installed | Likely Refrigerant |
|---|---|
| Before 2015 | R22 (older units) |
| 2015 – 2020 | R410A (transitional) |
| After 2020 | R32 (current standard) |
This is only a rough clue — different models within the same year can use different refrigerants. Always confirm from the nameplate or manufacturer specification.
WHY THIS MATTERS
Using the wrong refrigerant can permanently damage your compressor — and that's an expensive repair. Refrigerants are not interchangeable. Your technician must match the exact type listed on your unit's nameplate.
This is also why we always ask for a photo before quoting — it's the fastest way to give you an accurate price without a site visit.
Can't find the sticker, or not sure what you're looking at? Take a photo of the outdoor unit and send it to us. We'll tell you the refrigerant type and the exact top-up price — no site visit needed.

Top-Up vs Full Recharge — What's the Difference?
These two terms get used interchangeably, but they mean very different things. Here's how we define them at Cool Pro — so you know exactly what you're paying for.
TOP-UP
From RM50
A partial addition of refrigerant to a system that's slightly low. Used when the technician confirms that a small amount has been lost and the system is otherwise in good condition.
Not every low system needs a full recharge. If a joint was slightly loose or there was a minor loss, a top-up is often enough — after the leak source is checked and addressed.
FULL RECHARGE
From RM180–RM250
A complete refrigerant service. Used when the system has lost most or all of its charge — usually because of a significant leak, a recent repair that required opening the circuit, or a previous undercharge that never got fixed.
A full recharge isn't just "more gas." It typically involves pulling a vacuum first, then charging according to the manufacturer's specification.
Your technician will confirm which option is actually appropriate — not automatically sell you the more expensive one. If a top-up will do the job safely, that's what we recommend.
THE HONEST PART
Why We Don't Just Top Up and Leave
A top-up without fixing the leak is a temporary fix that costs you twice. Here's what we actually do instead.
01
System Check & Refrigerant ID
We confirm the refrigerant type from the unit's nameplate and check overall condition.
02
Pressure Test
Gauges measure standing and running pressure to confirm whether the system is genuinely low.
03
Leak Check
We inspect flare joints, brazed connections, and coil lines with visual and electronic tools.
04
Repair, If Needed
If a leak is found, we quote the repair in writing before proceeding — you decide.
05
Recharge
Refrigerant added according to the manufacturer's specification — following the correct charging method for your unit.
06
Performance Test
We measure outlet temperature and confirm the unit is cooling properly. The result is explained to you before we leave.

INVERTER & BRANDS
Inverter & Non-Inverter Gas Top-Up
Inverter Aircond
Typically R32 or R410A. More sensitive to exact charge — we follow the manufacturer's charging specification and confirm operation through measured performance, not pressure alone.
Non-Inverter Aircond
Often R22 on older units. Charging is more straightforward but still requires a proper leak check and vacuum before refill.

FAQ
Aircond Gas Top-Up Questions
How much does aircond gas top-up cost in KL and Selangor?
A small top-up starts from RM50. A half top-up is RM130. Top-ups are also priced per PSI — RM1.50/PSI for R22, and RM2.00/PSI for R32 and R410A. A full recharge starts from RM180 for R22 units and RM200 for R32 or R410A units at 1.0–1.5HP. Larger units are quoted after inspection.
Does aircond gas run out over time?
No. Refrigerant circulates in a sealed loop and doesn't get consumed during normal operation. If a unit is low, a leak or a previous undercharge is usually worth investigating first.
Do you check for leaks before topping up?
Yes, always. A pressure test and leak check are included in every gas service. Topping up without checking for a leak usually means you'd need another top-up within weeks.
How do I know which gas type my aircond uses?
Check the sticker on your outdoor compressor unit — it states the refrigerant type directly. Installation year can give a rough clue, but the nameplate is the reliable answer. Send us a photo and we'll confirm.
Is R32 gas safe?
R32 is classified as mildly flammable (A2L), which is why handling it should always be left to a trained, certified technician. It's genuinely more efficient than older refrigerants and safe when handled correctly — it's just not a DIY job.
Why is R22 gas more expensive than R32?
R22 is being phased out globally under the Montreal Protocol due to its impact on the ozone layer. As supply shrinks, the price rises — and it will keep doing so over time.
What's the difference between a gas top-up and a full recharge?
A top-up adds a small amount of refrigerant to a system that's slightly low. A full recharge replaces the whole charge and is used when a system has lost most or all of its refrigerant — usually after a significant leak or repair.
Does chemical wash include gas top-up?
No, they're separate services. A chemical wash cleans the coil and blower; it doesn't address refrigerant levels. If you need both, we can do them on the same visit.
My aircond isn't cooling well — is it definitely a gas issue?
Not necessarily. A dirty filter is a common cause of weak cooling and isn't a gas problem at all. Try cleaning the filter first. If that doesn't help, message us and we'll check properly.
What if my aircond is still not cold after a top-up?
If refrigerant level was normal and the unit still isn't cooling, gas wasn't the issue. The next step is checking the coil, airflow, and electrical components — usually a chemical wash or a repair diagnosis, not more gas.
How long does a gas top-up take?
A straightforward top-up on a standard wall-mounted unit takes around 45–60 minutes including the pressure test and performance check. If a leak is found and needs repair, the visit will take longer.
Do you provide a warranty on gas top-up?
Yes. Every gas service comes with a 30-day workmanship warranty covering our work. If the same issue returns within 30 days, contact us.
Can I send a photo before booking?
Please do. A photo of your outdoor unit label and the indoor unit helps us confirm the refrigerant type and give you a more accurate estimate before we visit. It's the fastest way to get a useful answer.
